Today in class, students organized their binders moving first quarter materials into a folder for the mid-term and final examinations. Students were also given the opportunity to ask for any items they felt would help improve their ability to keep and maintain a nice, neat, organized binder.
Apology
I am currently waist deep in grading the unit test and the notebook quiz. As soon as these two items have been loaded in Powerschool I will update the blog. I apologize for any inconvenience. There is no homework for Thursday 11/20.

Activity 22B: The Heart: A Muscle
In today's activity, students are comparing the muscles in their hand, forearm, and shoulder to the muscle that makes up their heart. Students are trying to pump water the same number of times as their heart beats in one minute. Then, students are comparing the volume of water pumped to the volume of blood that the average heart pumps for a person of their height.
Homework: Review the vocabulary terms: vein, artery, heart

Today we continued our discussion about blood flow through the body. Instead of using text, we used video. Students create a flow chart to represent the movement of blood through the body citing evidence from the video.

Activity 21B: Inside a Pump
In today's activity students will use a pump to model and explain how the heart moves blood in one direction. By moving water from one bucket to another with both a siphon and pressure pump, students will learn that valves are responsible for the one way movement of blood throughout the body.
Homework: Complete any missing assignments. Quarter ends Friday 11/7

RACECaR
Today, we collected baseline data for argumentative writing so we can track our progress throughout the year. Students used a secondary source document to answer the following question using the rubric below: Which body system is the most important? This questions was selected because it can have any number of answers. Students are to select the body system they believe is most important and support their side of the argument with information from the text.
Homework: Complete all missing assignments or assignments that have lower then expected grades.

Food Drive Starts Wednesday
Today starts Mr. Forde's advisory food drive. Each homeroom will have a box for which donations can be placed. My advisory is committing random acts of kindness and helped make the promotional signs for the food drive. To help promote giving, my science classes will be competing against one another as part of our classroom challenge by bringing in canned goods.
